"For me photography is about capturing a moment in time that may never come again"

There is nothing more beautiful than the innocence of a child.  I strive to capture this innocence in every child, be they 1 or 100.  Do any of us ever really grow up?

I’ve had a camera since I was a teenager.  I was a shy child and photography helped me to emerge from my shell.  It never dawned on me that I could make a living capturing other people’s joy, hence I pursued a degree in electrical engineering and went on to earn my MBA at the University of Michigan.  I picked up my first DSLR camera in 2010 with the hopes of capturing some great travel photographs for my home.  I often purchased works of art in my travels and thought, why not make my own.  I found my greatest joy in capturing the spirit of the people I encountered in each country I visited.  As I took courses to improve my skills, I discovered that I could bring joy to others and continue to do what I loved.  Hence I decided to pursue photography as a second profession.

I currently have two photography ventures, Armetrice Photography which specializes in portrait work and Captured by Cabine for events and volume work.  You may visit my websites at armetrice.com and/or capturedbycabine.com.  Both websites were designed by me using word press.  I have a certificate in word press from Kennesaw State University.  I also currently manage a Joomla based site for my Ski Club.

I am a member of PPA, GPPA, Cherokee Photography Club and Georgian Nature Photographers Association. I am a past member of the Southeastern Photographic Society, the Roswell Photographic Society and Decatur Digital Photography.

I have completed and passed the written CPP exam and I am currently working on my image submissions. I have also earned two image merits for international print competition and I have the required 12 service merits for my Master of Photography degree.

I took first place in the print competition at the GNPA annual convention in both 2015 and 2016. I have won both an honorable mention and a first place ribbon during print competition with the Southeastern Photographic Society

My photos have been exhibited with the Southeastern Photographic Society during Atlanta Celebrates photography.

I currently mentor approximately 10 African American photographers who are seeking to earn their CPP.  This mentoring program is in conjunction with Mike South, Keith B. Dixon and Shawn Lee, diversity lead for PPA  The mentoring program is approved by Julia Boyd, CPP coordinator for PPA.

I have previously been both a mentee and a mentor with Decatur Digital Photography.

Outside of photography, I am the current president for the Southern Snow Seekers Ski Club.  I am serving my second term as president and will relinquish my position in March of 2018.

I have also been awarded the presidential volunteer service award for the past three years, for my service as a volunteer.

Thank you for considering me for the GPPA board of directors.

Jennifer Collins

"I believe in the art, business and professionalism of running  a photography business – a lot of new people coming into the market are not educated in some of these areas. One of my interest and goals? I want to gain these new photographers and business owners to the association. I believe introducing them to GPPA would help them, us and all of our clients! Also, GPPA helped me a lot when I started out – it’s time to give back!"

Jennifer Collins is the owner and artist of JCollins Photography which has been in business full time for over 17 years. Her residential gallery and studio includes a full service indoor studio and a countless number of constantly changing outdoor locations. She recently added a 1.5 acre pond and a barn with 5 shooting bays that are changed out constantly.

Collins graduated from GCSU with a BBA in IS (Information Systems and Computer Programming), and Photography. She is a Certified PPA member. Collins’ work has been published in "Working with Special Needs Children" book and "Sew News" of San Francisco, Lake Oconee Living and several other local publications.

Tara Ruby

My name is Tara Ruby. I am deeply imbedded into the military life, being a military veteran, a military spouse and very soon a military mom. I love to capture portraits with a focus on motherhood as well as our US Military. I am honored to have been both published and award winning at both a National and an International level with my work.

I have worked to pioneer a style of family, newborn, maternity, breastfeeding and birth photography that earned awards from organizations such as the Wedding and Portrait Photographers International (WPPI), the Professional Photographers of America (PPA), The National Association of Professional Child Photographers (NAPCP) as well as within the Army community and more. Among hundreds of international publications, my photography has been shared on Facebook over 3.5 million times and featured in Vanity Fair, USA Today, Cosmopolitan, SELF Magazine, The Huffington Post, Time Magazine, and The Army Times and many more. Cosmopolitan magazine has called my work “stunning”, “powerful” and notes that my work caused “the internet to lose its collective mind”. I was also a finalist in Ron Howard’s Project Imaginat10n contest and was also featured in a full-feature documentary, Homecoming The Film.

I am a graduate of the New York Institute of Photography and I currently hold an Associate's title with WPPI. I am also working towards my Certified Professional Photographers certification with PPA and my goal is to achieve this in 2017. I have also branched out into the world of speaking, and helping others as they walk along their individual paths in this world of small business management in the world of photography.

By volunteering with GPPA I hope to increase my knowledge of PPA, and to help promote small veteran owned business and photographers and to support other military spouses and veteran photographers. I would also love to work with other Georgia photographers to ensure that they are as professional as possible. I have the honor of working with some amazing sponsors, such as 17hats, Tamron and Album Epoca and I am an ambassador for Spider Holster. I enjoy working with both vendors and sponsors.
